The Coincidental Critic

Exploring the art of storytelling.

The Table (SPOILERS)

Finally, an episode about Sue and Darrin’s relationship!  Apparently, they’re more in love than ever before, and I was able to believe it this episode.  I’m going to ignore the fact that Darrin was completely MIA from Sue’s life in the first three episodes of this season.  Hopefully the writers don’t slack and keep their storyline moving.

This episode, we got to glimpse a bit deeper into Brad’s life.  We saw Brad’s room adorned with NYC and Broadway decorations.  His walls were painted blue, but the room was filled with pops of color.  He had a vanity mirror with lights, not to mention the dramatic photos of him on the wall.  The set designers created a perfect room for Brad.

One thing that I love about “The Middle” is all its pop culture references.  It makes the show feel more realistic and the characters more relatable.  In this episode, Sue references John Green and “The Fault in Our Stars.”  In past episodes, there have been references to One Direction and “The Bachelor.”  This makes the show feel more up to date and entertaining.  It was cute to watch Sue quote John Green to win Brad’s heart back.
