The Coincidental Critic

Exploring the art of storytelling.

It’s About Time (SPOILERS)

In the season four finale of “New Girl,” Schmidt and Cece got engaged.  Starting in season five, the wedding planning began.

I loved seeing the contrast between how Schmidt asked Nick to be his best man and how Cece asked Jess to be her maid of honor.  Schmidt made a big scene.  He had a ring and even got down on one knee.  Cece was a lot more casual.  She had just woken up.  She slowly drank coffee as Jess stood waiting in anticipation.  Then Cece finally asked Jess.  It was a funny contrast to see these two “proposals.”  It was an interesting shift in gender stereotypes.

Cece’s mother finally made an appearance in “New Girl.”  We never saw Cece’s mother at Cece’s first wedding?  Was she even there?  Did she approve of Shivrang?  Was she mad when Cece didn’t go through with it?  I wish we got even more information about Cece’s mother.

In “Big Mama P,” all of the characters storylines were basically centered around Cece, so unfortunately, there wasn’t much character development.  And the subplots weren’t very interesting.  Hopefully we get some great storylines in upcoming episodes.
