Exploring the art of storytelling.

I’m So Not Ok! (SPOILERS)

The writing was extra clever in this episode of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”

My favorite lines of dialogue in “I’m So Happy That Josh Is So Happy!” was when Hector talked about parking at his girlfriend’s place.  He started with, “The nicest thing I ever did for a girl was pull out,” and ended with, “I’m just happy I have a spot at all because I used to have to pay.”  In between were more lines filled with sexual innuendoes.  The dialogue itself almost went on for a full minute.  It was hilarious, and I’m impressed that the writers were able to keep the joke going for that long.

Another great line was when Paula said, “No one likes a stalker.”  Then, she took out a pair of binoculars and spied on Josh and Valencia.  Oh, the hypocrisy!

Rebecca finally snapped in “I’m So Happy That Josh Is So Happy!”  It finally hit her that Josh loves Valencia and may never love her.  It was hinted in the pilot episode that Rebecca has a history of anxiety, and this episode, we saw it take hold.  Rebecca couldn’t stop thinking about Josh and Valencia.  She sought a means to numb her feelings in the form of prescription drugs.  She wound up hallucinating about Dr. Phil, bribing a psychiatrist, and getting high with Heather.  This storyline explored both mental health and drug abuse.  It had the perfect amount of humor to make it enjoyable, but not decrease the seriousness of the issue.
